E1/T1 PCM Framers
The E1/T1 16 PCM card provides 16 E1/T1/J1 framers and Line Interface Unit
for Long and Short Haul Applications. It can handle attenuated signals up
to -43 dB at 1024 kHz (E1) and up to -36 dB at 772 kHz (T1/J1).
The transmit pulse shapes are programmable for E1 and T1/J1, as well as the
Build-Out for CSU signals according to ANSI T1. 403 and FCC68: 0dB, -7.5dB,
-15dB, -22.5 dB (T1/J1).
The physical interface offers low transmitter output impedance for high transmit
return loss, tri-state function of the analog transmit line outputs, per
channel power down. The transmit line monitor protects the device from damage.
Jitter specifications of ITU-T I.431, G.703, G.736 (E1), G.823 (E1) and AT&T
TR62411 (T1/J1) are met.
Loss of signal indication has programmable thresholds according to ITU-T
G.775, ETS300233 (E1) and ANSI T1.403 (T1/J1).
Frame alignment for 2048 kbit/s is according to ITU-T G.704 (E1) and for
1544 kbit/s according to ITU-T G.704 and JT G.704 (T1/J1).
The supported frame formats are E1 Doubleframe, CRC Multiframe (E1), T1 4-Frame
Multiframe (F4, FT), T1 12-Frame Multiframe (F12, D3/4), T1 Extended Superframe
(F24, ESF), T1 Remote Switch Mode (F72, SLC96), with selectable conditions
for recover/loss of alignment.
CRC4 to Non-CRC4 inter-working is according to ITU-T G. 706 Annex B (E1),
error checking via CRC4 to ITU-T G.706 (E1); error checking via CRC6 to ITU-T
G. 706 and JT G.706 (T1/J1).
Alarm indication signals and Remote Alarm management work according to ITU
JT-G.704 in ESF-format (J1).
IDLE code can be inserted in selectable channels.
Diagnostic and statistical functions allow alarm and performance per second
monitoring (CRC errors, framing errors, code violations, E bit and SA6 bit
(E1) errors, errored blocks, PRBS bit errors), local and remote line or payload
loop back (TR54016), programmable in-band loop code detection and generation
(TR62411), pseudo random bit sequence (PRBS) generation and monitoring (framed
or unframed) and single bit defect insertion.
Signalling controller
A signalling controller is available for each PCM line, which supports HDLC
mode or transparent mode. It provides special hardware support for SS7 signalling
according to ITU-Q.703.
The device works also as CAS/CAS-BR controller with last look capability,
enhanced CAS- register access and freeze signalling indication.
DL-channel protocol for ESF format is according to ANSI T1.403 or to AT&T
TR54016 (T1/J1). DL-bit access for F72 (SLC96) format (T1/J1).
It generates automatically periodical performance report according to ANSI
T1. 403. Multiframe synchronization and synthesis is according to ITU-T G.732
Automatic alarm insertion and detection (AIS and LOS in time slot 16).
Any combination of time slots is selectable for signalling-independent data
transfer data transfer, including time-slot 0 S an 8...4-bit. FIFO buffers,
64 bytes long, allows efficient transfer of data packets to the CPU.
Line Interfaces
Software can select line terminations, 75 Ohm unbalanced and 120 Ohm balanced
for E1 or 100 Ohm unbalanced for T1.
16 triple leds (red yellow green) on the front panel, one for each PCM line,
provide line status indications.
The 16 T1/E1 are connected through J5, the rear panel holds the 16 RJ11 connectors,
these types of connectors allow a one slot card occupation.
H.110 Controller &
Switch Matrix
The H.110 controller provides switching between the ECTF H.110 CTBus interfaces
and the local resources (16 E1/T1 channels), or internally between the local
resources. Each connection can be a 1-bit, 2-bit, 4-bit, or 8-bit. Up to
2048 connections are supported.
The ECTF CTBus uses the standard CTBus H.110 pins on J4.
The message mode function allows assigning a preset value to any output time-slot.
Broadcast switching optionally distributes one incoming time-slot to different
output time-slots. Conversely it is possible to generate one output time-slot
consisting of several input time-slots. The specified input time-slots are
logically AND or OR connected. The software has read access to the content
of any input time-slot.
Clock Control
Clock synchronisation is maintained by digital phase locked loop circuitry,
which provides timing and synchronisation signals.
The board may be configured as Master or Slave with respect to H.110 and
handles H.110 clock fallback rules.
The reference clock can be selected from any of the network interfaces, or
from a dedicated external 2 MHz sinusoidal reference connected to a. dedicated
microSiemens coax connector on the rear panel.
Compact PCI
The E1/T1 16 PCM card provides a slave 33MHz 32 bit Compact PCI compliant
bus interface (PCI v2.2). The bridge supports posted memory writes for best
PCI performance.
The card requires a 3.3v supply, and it provides 3.3V signalling with 5V
I/O tolerance on both the PCI and H.110 buses.
Version 2.0 of the card supports Hot Swap compliant with PICMG 2.1 R1.0,
tolerance of Vcc from early power, tolerance of asynchronous reset, tolerance
of pre-charge voltage, and Hot Swap Control/Status register.
The Injector/Extractor system provides protection from electrostatic
discharge on board insertion. The board U-channel front panel with gasket
assures electromagnetic protection.
The protection level meets the requirements of the IEEE 1101.10 Standard.
The board meets the electrical and mechanical requirements of CompactPCI
Specification PICMG 2.0, and the extensions concerning usage of connector
J5 for Computer Telephony applications, PICMG 2.5.
The main board is a 6U (233.35 mm by 160 mm) board size. The Rear Panel I/O
is also 6U size (233.35 mm by 80 mm). The card occupies one slot.
The board uses standard 2 mm Type AB CompactPCI connectors.
Software & Drivers
Drivers are available for many operating systems. Prisma Engineering can
also provide custom versions of them on the basis of specific needs.
